Millions of Boppy Loungers Recalled After 8 Fatalities

|

The Boppy Company LLC has recalled almost 3.3 million nursing pillows and loungers after the deaths of eight babies. These loungers were sold by various retailers from January 2004 to September 2021 throughout the US and Canada. The recalled products include the following items:

  • Boppy Original Newborn Lounger
  • Boppy Preferred Newborn Lounger
  • Pottery Barn Kids Boppy Newborn Lounger

The Boppy Company promoted the Boppy Loungers as a “hands-free” option for feeding and lounging.

However, according to Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) and Boppy’s website, the pillow-like device may create a suffocation hazard for babies if their airways become blocked. This may occur when babies roll or move, are placed incorrectly in the lounger, or if they roll off onto another surface such as a soft blanket or bedding, or another pillow. The recall notice indicates the deaths occurred after placing infants on the loungers on their stomachs, sides, or back, and they found the infants suffocated on their sides or belly.

For more information about this recall, or if your child or loved one has sustained injuries after using one of these pillows, please contact our attorneys immediately for a free consultation.
