CP4 Fuel Pump Mass Tort Attorneys

CP4 Fuel Pump Failure Lawsuits

A diesel truck is built on trust — trust that the engine under the hood will haul a trailer, get through a workday, and start again tomorrow. For hundreds of thousands of Ford, GM, and Ram diesel owners, that trust was broken by a single component: the Bosch CP4 high-pressure fuel pump.

Hilliard Law didn't just take on this fight — we helped lead it. As one of the firms at the forefront of the multistate litigation against Ford, General Motors, and Chrysler over the defective CP4 pump, we've spent years holding some of the largest automakers in the world accountable for a part they knew was failing.

What Is the CP4 Fuel Pump Defect?

The Bosch CP4 pump was originally engineered for diesel sold in Europe, where the fuel naturally contains more lubricating properties. Ultra-low-sulfur diesel sold in the United States doesn't offer that same lubrication — and the CP4 pump can't compensate.

Without adequate lubrication, metal components inside the pump begin grinding against each other. The result is a slow, silent disintegration: metal shavings break loose and travel through the fuel system, contaminating injectors, lines, and ultimately the engine itself. Owners have reported total engine failure occurring anywhere from the very first tank of fuel to well into normal use — with no warning lights, no warranty fix, and no way to know it's happening until the truck simply stops.

The price tag for owners has ranged from roughly $8,000 to $20,000 in repairs — and because the "fix" is often just another CP4 pump, the underlying problem frequently isn't solved at all.

Why Are CP4 Fuel Pumps Being Investigated?

Many consumers allege that manufacturers equipped vehicles with CP4 fuel pumps despite knowing or having reason to know about potential reliability concerns.

Claims surrounding the CP4 fuel pump generally involve allegations that:

  • The pump is prone to premature wear
  • Internal components can fail unexpectedly
  • Metal debris can contaminate the fuel system
  • Vehicle owners face excessive repair costs
  • Manufacturers failed to adequately warn consumers about the risks

As a result, numerous lawsuits have been filed seeking compensation for affected vehicle owners.
