Updates in Roblox Child Sex Abuse Lawsuits
- April 2026:
- A California court grants the petition to coordinate Roblox child sex abuse cases filed within the state into Judicial Council Coordinated Proceeding (JCCP) 5440. A JCCP in California is similar to what other states would call multidistrict litigation (MDL). Following this court decision, it should become more efficient for plaintiffs in California to take action against Roblox.
- Roblox agrees to pay Alabama $12.2 million and West Virginia $11 million to settle lawsuits filed against the corporation over concerns of its inefficient child safety measures. The lawsuit included Roblox making a commitment to improve its platform’s child safety features as soon as reasonably possible.
- Roblox agrees to pay Nevada $12 million to settle lawsuits filed against the corporation regarding its inefficient child safety features. The corporation also agreed to improve those features, as well as provide funding to the Boys and Girls Club and other child-friendly, non-digital activities.
- Roblox announces it will implement account changes that sort users by age and that block young users from using in-platform communication features. Critics argue that this measure will make it easier for child sexual predators to find young users by claiming to be children themselves and make it simpler for them to convince a child user to talk to them through text messages, DMs, and other off-platform methods.
- March 2026:
- Egypt’s Supreme Council for Media Regulation officially began a nationwide Roblox ban due to the public’s growing concern over child sexual abuse risks on the gaming platform. Although this major decision occurred overseas, it highlights just how serious the situation has become.
- January 2026:
- The year begins with more than 80 Roblox child sex abuse and exploitation lawsuits in federal courts.
- December 2025:
- Many Roblox child sex abuse lawsuits are compiled into multidistrict litigation. California Judge Richard Seeborg will review the grouped MDL to determine if the cases can proceed.
- November 2025:
- Along with Florida, Iowa, Nebraska, and Tennessee, Texas takes major legal action against Roblox for “flagrantly ignoring state and federal online safety laws while deceiving parents about the dangers of its platform,” in the words of a press release from Ken Paxton, Attorney General of Texas.
- August 2025:
- Prominent social media influencer and YouTube gaming streamer Schlep announces that Roblox banned him from its gaming platform after he apparently uncovered and outed several other users who were sexually abusing children within the game. Schlep claims he was groomed years ago on Roblox when he was a minor, which indicates that the insufficient child safety measures might have been in place for years. Roblox is hit with significant backlash by users, parents, and child safety advocates who believe the corporation is more interested in protecting the potential child predators using its platform than the children.
- April 2025:
- The first Roblox child sex abuse lawsuits are filed. Each claims that Roblox Corporation has taken insufficient measures to protect young users from child sexual offenders, alleging that the gaming platform’s failures are so consistent and severe that it amounts to negligence and liability.
