Honoring a Legacy of Leadership, Loyalty, and Grit: Bob Hilliard honored with Islanders Tennis Championship Ring

At Hilliard Law, we often talk about legacy - not just what you achieve, but how you show up for others along the way. Recently, that legacy was honored in a very special way.

Longtime Islanders Tennis supporter and friend, Bob Hilliard, was presented with a Southland Conference Championship ring in recognition of nearly three decades of unwavering support for Islanders Men’s Tennis. The ring was presented by Head Coach Steve Moore, alongside Bob and Catherine’s son, Del, making the moment even more meaningful.

The Hilliard Family has proudly and generously supported Islanders Tennis for the past 28 years, dating back to the program’s earliest days in 1998. When the team was just getting started, Bob was one of the very first people in the Corpus Christi community to step forward - not because he was asked, but because he believed in the values the program stood for.

Coach Moore shared that he first met Bob years earlier through family connections and tennis, where Bob was known not only as one of the best players in Corpus Christi, ranked among the top players in the nation, but also as a mentor who gave his time, wisdom, and encouragement freely to younger athletes.

“He always emphasized brotherhood and camaraderie,” Coach Moore shared. “My grandfather used to say the greatest challenge is to be a fierce competitor while remaining a kind-hearted gentleman — that was Bob.”

Since those early days, Islanders Tennis has grown into the winningest program in Southland Conference history, earning 37 conference championships and making 17 NCAA Championship appearances. Coach Moore credits Bob’s consistent generosity and belief in the program as a foundational pillar of that success.

For nearly three decades, Bob has supported Islanders Tennis the same way he always has: quietly, generously, and with heart.

We are proud to see Bob honored not just for wins on the court, but for the character, loyalty, and leadership he has shown over a lifetime. Congratulations, Bob — and thank you for continuing to invest in our community, our athletes, and the next generation.
