Each year, Super Lawyers uses its patented multi-step selection process to collect nominations and look for attorneys with promising careers and reputations. Using peer input, case results, and several other factors of outstanding legal counsel and ethical business practices, the nationwide organization gradually eliminates nominees, one by one. When the selection process is finished, no more than 5% of all practicing attorneys from each region will be named Super Lawyers members that year. Because the membership only lasts one year, attorneys must continually strive to stay atop their practice if they want to earn membership again.
Rising Stars is a part of Super Lawyers that uses a similar rigorous selection process. The difference is that membership can only be given to attorneys who are under 40 years of age or who have been practicing law for less than 10 years. Due to these added requirements, no more than 2.5% of practicing lawyers will be named a Rising Stars member each year.
