Suboxone Tooth Decay

Did You Use Suboxone & Suffer Dental Damage?

Suboxone, a drug used to treat opioid use disorder, has been linked to severe dental damage and tooth decay. Indivior, the main manufacturer of Suboxone, is now facing a wave of lawsuits.

What is Suboxone?

Suboxone uses buprenorphine and naloxone to mitigate the symptoms of opioid use disorder (OUD). It has been manufactured as both a dissolvable oral tablet and a sublingual strip placed on the gums. Both forms of Suboxone have been linked to an increased risk of tooth decay and oral injuries.

Indivior has been accused of failing to report the drug’s link to dental damage. After Suboxone gained approval from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in 2002, users began to report severe dental damage as early as 2010, yet Indivior never listed dental injuries as a potential side effect of the drug until 2022. This failure to warn patients and medical providers about the dental-related side effects serves as the basis for Suboxone lawsuits, as well as medical product liability laws.

Dental Injuries Linked to Suboxone

Using Suboxone as prescribed has been linked to:

  • Tooth decay
  • Tooth loss
  • Mandatory tooth extraction
  • Cracked teeth
  • Cavities
  • Gum disease
  • Gum damage
  • Oral infections
  • Enamel erosion
  • Jaw bone damage

Are You Eligible to File a Suboxone Lawsuit?

You may be eligible to file a Suboxone tooth decay lawsuit if:

  • You were prescribed Suboxone before 2022 (when “dental adverse events” was added to the drug’s warning label);
  • You used Suboxone as directed for at least several months; and,
  • You were diagnosed with tooth decay, oral infection, dental damage, or another mouth-related injury after using Suboxone.

Your eligibility may differ if you have used methamphetamine and suffered dental damage or tooth loss as a result.

Multidistrict Litigation for Suboxone Lawsuits

Currently, there are enough people who have used Suboxone and suffered dental injuries and tooth decay for a Judicial Panel to justify multidistrict litigation (MDL) against Indivior. Multidistrict litigation like a mass tort can streamline the litigative process while still allowing plaintiffs to pursue individual claims for damages specific to their losses. The Suboxone MDL is not a class action lawsuit, though, which has a noticeably different legal process.

Damages in a Suboxone Lawsuit

If you have suffered dental injuries after using Suboxone, you should pursue your legal right to demand compensation from Indivior. After all, you may require extensive dental care after Suboxone caused tooth decay and other problems. It is not right to expect you to pay for your recovery out of your finances when you were just using a prescription medication as directed.

In your Suboxone injury lawsuit, you could seek compensation that helps pay for:

  • Dental treatments required to care for injuries caused by Suboxone.
  • Wages you lost if you took time off work to care for your Suboxone-related injuries.
  • Pain and suffering caused by your dental or oral injuries.
  • Emotional traumatization related to feeling like your smile has been ruined by Suboxone.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS real questions. Real answers.

  • Can I still file a lawsuit if I was partially at fault for the accident?

It depends on the jurisdiction and the concept of comparative negligence. In some places, you can still recover damages even if you were partially at fault, but the amount may be reduced.

  • How long does a personal injury lawsuit take?

The duration varies depending on factors such as the complexity of the case, negotiations, and court schedules. Some cases may be resolved in a few months, while others can take several years.

  • Will my case go to trial?

Many personal injury cases are settled out of court through negotiations. However, if a fair settlement cannot be reached, your case may proceed to trial.
